Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter has very dark puffy eyes, and has recently been diagnosed with mild asthma and is taking SALAMOL, she has a high temperature that responds to calpol. However, once this has worn off the temperature comes back, and she becomes a little lethargic. My half brother on my fathers side died of leukemia aged 3 years and this always puts a slight fear in the back of my mind. Is this something i should worry about? Do you have any suggestions that I could follow or what steps should I take?
Thanks for asking on healthcaremagic. Salbutamol will help in reducing the breathing difficulties. Give steam inhalation to help in diluting her cough. The temperature indicates infection which is probably due to a virus. A simple blood test will confirm it and also clarify that leukemia is unlikely. There is no use worrying over a positive family history and although the chances might be higher compared to the general population, it is not mandatory that she will ever have that disease. No specific steps to be taken except for a healthy lifestyle and proper food habits. Puffy eyes could be due to low protein or some kidney causes but it is hard to comment without investigation. Management will depend on the cause.
