How To Treat Severe Abdominal Pain While Suffering From Kidney Stone?

How long is too long to have kidney stone pain? I m on medicaid waiting for approval for a CT scan. They tell me if the pain is a 9/10 then to go to emergency room. The pain has lasted almost 2 weeks. It hurts really bad to lay down. Should I go to the ER so I can get my CT scan done?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
Kidney stones when they are getting painful are moving and are of a size that can be brought out of the body. To help this process is very important to make sure you drink plenty and also drink also blueberry juice is helpful. Pain killers help with pain, if no allergies and no stomach problems you can take full dose Ibuprofen after food 3-4 times a day. If no improvement you will need to see the ER doctor and have the needed treatment. Most of the stones come out and cause no problems, rarely they can cause infection and if you have urinary burning or fever you need to have a urinalysis to rule out urinary infection.
Hope this is helpful and answers to your question
