How To Treat Severe Pain On Right Hand And Wrist Caused After Injury?

I was playing tennis about 6 weeks ago and hit a back hand shot that caused a lot of pain to my right hand and wrist area. The pain is not as bad but is still there. I iced the hand and purchased a pair of Tommie Copper gloves, but I still have pain when I m lifting, grabbing, and if I hit the hand. I thought it was a sprain, could it be something else? Thanks Jim

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If there was direct trauma to the hand or wrist area then a fracture would be considered.
Since this is not the case, ligament injury or other soft tissue injury is most likely though the exact severity would not be known with examination.

Ligament injury can range from a sprain to a partial tear to a complete tear.

Icing and the use of the gloves is appropriate but you may need to add anti inflammatory pain medication such as naproxen, celebrex, cataflam, ibuprofen.

Restrict all unnecessary movement.

You may need to be reviewed by your doctor.

I hope this helps
