How To Treat Sharp Pain And Burning Sensation In Forearm After Having Blood Infusion?
I went in for a blood draw and when the nurse got everything attached, the syringe started pushing air into my vein instead of pulling blood out. She said it was like the suction of the syringe was put on backwards. She kind of freaked out saying how dangerous it was. She wasn t able to get any blood out. She had me lean forward and pump my fist open and closed. Nothing worked. She gave up on trying to get blood out. Then she tried to start my infusion from the same line and nothing would pass INTO my vein. The pump kept beeping because it wouldn t flow in. So we had to go with a new location to infuse. We didn t end up doing a blood draw that day but ever since the incident with the air going into my left arm, my arm has a burning sensation that won t go away. I also sometimes get a sharp pain in my forearm on that arm. It has been 6 weeks. I want to mention that I have MS and tingling sensations in my extremities is part of my everyday life but this burning sensation in that arm is something different. Has something been damaged as a result of air going into my vein? Is this something I need to look into further?
It can range from vein injury called thrombophlebitis as if air is gone into system it should give severe signs and symptoms with in minutes and may be emergency condition but it should be used left may need compression and anti inflammatory painkiller etc., and use this arm or do little bit yoga with this hand and arm also. If it’s very painful or problematic then ultrasound can help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
