How To Treat Sharp Pain Between Ribs And Hips Caused After Injury?
Today I was climbing on a rock climbing wall in school. As I was being belayed down, my belayer let go very fast and I dropped down quickly. I don t think I hit my side against the wall but when I reached the ground my right side in between my ribs and hip bone had a very sharp pain for a few minutes. It eventually went away but I am worried as to what caused this, being that I didn t actually hit it and it happened because of the speed in which I was declined to the ground.
Sudden descent from a height can cause a certain group of muscles to go into spasm as a protective mechanism of body. And this happens pretty fast he4nce one can not really estimate what exactly could have happened. Thank God you did not hit the wall or the ground. I would advise you to observe for a few days.
If the pain persists take an anti-inflammatory with painkiller properties like Ibuprofen and apply a rubefacient liniment locally on the painful and tender are. Avoid all the activities that put a strain on this muscle group. Consult a Doctor if there is no relief.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
