How To Treat Shoulder Pull?

Yes, I do crossfit and I was working on my muscle ups with the rings and felt something pull in my chest/ shoulder. I am doing research on the area where the pain is and I found it to be or to be close to the pectoralis minor. How do I know if this is the right muscle and if so how should I treat the pain?

Hi welcome to HCM

The right muscle can only be identified by a doctor by taking a look at the area
Here's a pic of pectoralis minor - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5d/Pectoralis_minor.png/250px-Pectoralis_minor.png

Muscle strain or muscle pull means damage to a muscle or its tendons. This can happen when you put excess pressure on muscles during the course of normal daily activities, with sudden heavy lifting, during sports, or while performing work tasks.

Are you having any swelling / bruising ?
Are you having pain even when you are at rest ?
Are you having pain when you use that particular muscle

1. Use Ice packs - wrap a towel on the ice and use it around your chest/shoulder - once swelling has subsided heat can be applied. Use
for 20 minutes every hour - Ice is a very effective anti-inflammatory and
pain reliever.

2.Rest the strained muscle. Avoid the activities that caused the strain
and other activities that are painful.

3. You can apply Analgesic Gel ointment or Spray over the area to decrease pain.

4. NSAID Pain Killers may be useful only if your doctor prescribes

5. Medical treatment is similar to the treatment at home. The doctor, however, also can determine the extent of muscle and tendon injury and if crutches or a brace is necessary for healing. The doctor can also determine if you need to restrict your activity, take days off work, and if rehabilitation exercises or physical therapy are required to help you recover.

In most cases, with proper treatment, most people recover completely from muscle pull.
