Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is 4 and becomes very nervous whenever we are in a social setting. he says it is too loud and doesn t want to join in. He does enjoy playing but won t go into new settings and always says they are too noisy. He is not comfortable in crowds. a few people is fine, but not more than that. Is there something I can do to help him ? I m not sure what to do to make him more comfortable in these settings...like going to a community fair.
If he is comfortable with a few people around then you can start with this and gradually progress. It should occur over a long period of time and you can suggest, when with a bigger crowd that you would stay for a certain amount of time then leave. If he knows he is not there for an extended period, he may be able to relax more.
Some persons are just not comfortable around a crowd of persons but if can interact well with other kids in other settings then this may be fine for him.
I hope this helps
