Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My grandson is 3 1/2 and still isn t really talking. He says a few words but not sentences yet. He really isn t interested in talking. We have had him assessed and he apparently is delayed . His hearing is fine. He is currently in an early learning development program. Is there anything else we can do to help him?
I can understand your concern. The first problem for speech delay could be problem in hearing which is already ruled out in your child. If he is developing in other skills like any 3 year toddler, then he is not having any developmental disorder, too. The only auspicion in that case is the problem in tongue musculate or roof of the mouth.
You should take your child to the speech therapist if early development program does not include that. They are experts in training kids to use their tongue and oral musculature and learn to speak.
In addition to speech therapist, you can also apply some tips. Keep talking with the kid as much as you can. Point out things to him at home and market and keep saying what they are. Do not accept signals from him in place of words. Read to him if you can. Slowly, steadily and with patience, he will start talking too.
I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
