How To Treat Stage 4 Lung Cancer Spreading Into Kidney And Liver?
Hi, My mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in jan this year after 4 year remission of stage 3 breast cancer. The cancer has now spread to her bones(legs), kidney and liver. Doctors are no longer giving her chemo as they say her system to low. I spoke to her today she says her lungs are dried out and her stomach is very swollen and feels like there is something wrong. What could this mean
As per my clinical experience, the stage 4 lung cancer with spread to bones, kidney and liver do need only and only palliative care as there is no cure of this.
My guidelines at present
- quality of life is more important at this stage
- pain relief with max doses of opioids
- Ryles tube feeding if problem in oral intake
- supportive multi vitamin and minerals to fulfil the deficiencies
- salt and water restriction as per the kidney issues
- home nursing care to avoid bed sore development
- assisted physiotherapy of chest to preserve some level of pulmonary function.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
