How To Treat Stomach Pain Due To Acidity?

I have had stomach ache on and off for three years, doc tells me excess acid. I have tried proton pump inhibitors, they don't really work.
I had a dodgy meal three weeks ago and have had loose stools since, do you think they are related and is this normal? Any advice welcome.

Hello,

Stomach pain off and on for last three years not responding to PPI indicates the following:

Since you have not mentioned any specific area wherein you get pain it is difficult for me to specify the cause.

Since you have given additional history of loose stools it is possible that you have chronic Gastroenteritis or Entero-colitis that is not yet diagnosed well.

Hence I would advise you to get a consultation with a Gastroenterologist for clinical evaluation, an actual examination of the abdomen.

And advise for further investigations:
-Upper GI Endoscopy.
-Colonoscopy.
-Ultrasonography of abdomen.
-Tests of stool and blood, urine.
-CT scan of the abdomen if needed or there are any positive findings on Ultrasound.

All these things will lead to a definitive diagnosis and thus give a plan of a proper management. You may need a course of an antibiotic active against intestinal infection, Metronidazole and probiotics.

Avoid outside food totally. Use boiled for 20 minutes and cooled water.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant
