How To Treat Swelling And Redness In Scar On Right Shin After Injury?

My husband has an old scar on his right shin. Broke his leg 35 years ago. Recently went on a motorcycle tour, following that he developed redness, pain and swelling at the distal end of the scar. Doctor treated him with 2 different antibiotics with no improves. Some days he thinks its improving and other days its getting worse. He is a type 2 diabetic. What could it be?

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

First thing you will have to control the blood sugar level if it is far above normal range (means above 200 mg%).

If the redness, swelling and pain over the scar is not improving with antibiotics then I would suggest you to use topical steroids like betamethasone cream or ointment twice daily over scar.

If more pain, then take over the counter painkillers like diclofenac.

You can consult dermatologist for further treatment.

Regards,
