How To Treat Swelling And Tingling Sensation In Fifth Metatarsal After Injury?

Hi there.I broke my fifth metatarsal 3 weeks ago. If wasn t displaced and I was fitted with a plaster slipper and a removable shoe and told I could weight bear. I ve been trying to use crutches as much as I can but I have a baby and a 3 year old. It was feelkng much better but 3 days ago there was an incident with the baby and I ran a short distance very heavy footed with no crutches.Since then I have had more swelling and tingling again. I m trying to elevate as much as I can but it s not getyjg much better. Have a damaged it again or undone all the healing? What is causing the tingling? My toes sometimes feel pins and needles but no blueness or loss of sensation. My cast is due to be removed in 2 weeks. Should I get it checked out before then??Thank you.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Tingling sensation is due to irritation or injury to the nerve.
Swelling is probably due to inflammatory process which increased as you bore weight on the foot.
Swelling is not of much consequence but tingling sensation needs to be reported to your treating orthopedician.
Loosening or some adjustment of your cast may be required to relieve the tingling sensation.
Thus, a clinical assessment is definitely required.

Thanks and take care
