How To Withdraw From Percocet And Valium?

I have been taking percocet and valium for pain after knee replacement since July 6th, I really don t like them so now that the pain is subsiding I would like to try to wean myself off of them however I still to have some periods of pain at a level above 5. Last week I was taking 1 tablet every 6 hours 0f percocet and 1 tablet of valium every 8 hours and I have been reducing the dose and am now down to 1/2 tablet percocet every 6 hours along with 1 1/2 tylenol. I am now only taking 1/2 valium before bed. There is still a great deal of discomfort and I am wondering if I may add 800 Motrin throughout the day with the percocet and eliminate the valium altogether. Have I weaned myself off too quickly?

Hi,

As Valiun is not used for pain rather for sleep so what you should gradually tapper it. You should reduce the dose every two weeks gradually until you finish it. Apply sleep hygiene as well.

Regarding Percocet you should decrease it to a level where your pain is controlled and then reduce it further after few days if pain comes back then you should again increase it where it is controlled.

As Tylenol has no addiction and is safe you can use it more I spread of Percocet or Methadone which has potential for addiction. So take 2 tablet of Tylenol every 6 hours if pain still there you can take Percocet however if pain persistently there then you should talk to your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
