Huge Glob Of Bloody Mucus Came Out While Blowing The Nose. What Is It?

I ran warm water up my nose for a few seconds and then I blew my nose as hard as I could. Out came a huge glob of mucus with blood and dark yellow color to it.. I could not take it apart it was really hard like cartilage. I've been sick for four days now.. Started with chills at night, woke up with sore throat, fever, ear pain, and body aches. What could this be I did receive my flu shot this year...

Pain Medicine & Palliative Care Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
You appear to have an upper respiratory tract and possibly a sinus infection accounting for your symptoms. The small blood vessels in your nasal passages will be inflamed and fragile. When blowing your nose forcefully these blood vessels will have a tendency to bleed. This is most likely what has happened.
It is not serious and will settle as you improve.

Dr K A Pottinger,
