Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 42. I had 3 wisdom teeth pulled 7 weeks ago. 1 was impacted. The impacted tooth hole became infected with yellow/green pus the day after surgery. The oral surgeon prescribed augmentin for 7 days. I developed a dry socket the next day with a huge hole exposing my jaw bone. The dr applied cotton soaked in clove oil every day for 1 week, then said I was fine and to stop taking advil as soon as I could. But the pain never went away. My jaw was still swollen 1 week later (lump the size of a quarter) so she cleaned out the wound and prescribed clindamycin for 7 days and medicated mouth rinse. After 7 days the pain was less so I thought I was getting better. But then 1 week later the pain became worse and my gums were red and puffy looking so she prescribed 7 more days of Augmentin. The next day the pain stopped but my jaw is still swollen the same 8 days later and the hole has not healed yet. What is wrong with me and why is my jaw still infected? How do I know if I have Osteomyelitis or not? I am scared to death because I am afraid of doctors/dentist/hospitals/and needles which is why I waited until age 42 to have my wisdom teeth pulled (the other 2 had cavities which is why I had to finally do it). I've only been to the dentist twice in the last 15 years due to my fear.
