I Am 52, And I Have Been Abstinent Since My

I am 52, and I have been abstinent since my divorce 4.5 yrs ago. I am now in a relationship and recently during foreplay I started to bleed. I am concerned and it left me embarrassed and definitely killed the mood. What could cause that? Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Bleeding during foreplay could be due to following reasons.
1. Injury to the mucosa of vagina.
2. Inflammation of the cervix (Cervicitis).
3. Cervical or Uterine polyp.

The reason can be only known by clinical examination.

Kindly consult Obstetrician for per vaginal and per speculum examination, so that the cause for it can be diagnosed and treated accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
