Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am afraid for my 27 yrs old son, who suffered TBI blunt head trauma in 11 sites, and many broken bones, enlarged space btw vertebrae; broken maxillary nose and teeth, broken tympanum etc, three years ago when, after four days of not having been allowed to have his bipolar meds, he shouted,”No,” to his charge in the Bond Court. He was hit in the head, placed in a non breathing choke hold, and then for over 20 minutes he was kicked in the head by four sheriffs with their boots during which assault my son saw his teeth on the floor and as he was passing in and out of consciousness, he says he Was sure they will kill him and felt sorry only because his last memories were the spitting, swearing at him and the killing threats. He was “not responsive, not breathing, and not moving”(as per the sheriffs’ reports) for two hrs. Then he was kept incarcerated for three yrs without any treatment until it was discovered that he was innocent and was released six months ago.His personality is changed and his bipolar episodes are so intense in their mania and his suicidal ideation that I am so scared for him.His short term memory seems gone as he forgets two minutes after , his cognitive losses are so proeminant as he was able to take four classes per trimester at DePaul University where he was short two trimesters from graduating with aBA in Communications, and maintain a 3.0 GPA and presently he cannot hold one straight thought he says, as he constantly complains that his brain hurtsPlease tell me what might have happened to my son’s brain that changed him so much to the point that I do not recognize him anymore.
