I Had A Fracture Of Scaphoid Bone On My Wrist
I had a fracture at the wrist and it was said that I had a fracture of the scaphoid bone for which bandage was applied for 6 weeks, after the bandage was removed my doctor advised for physiotherapy, I want to know how would this help?

There are 8 small bones at the wrist joint called the carpel bone and Scaphoid is one of the eight carpal bones in the wrist. And one of the treatment options includes putting a plaster cast. If your plaster has been removed the physiotherapist will use wax to decrease pain and increase blood circulation followed by mobilization to regain the normal range of moments at the wrist joint.
since your hand is immobilized (plaster cast applied ) ,there will me pain when you attempt movement once cast is removed ,pain and absent or no movement form a vicious circle one leads to the other ,your physio will help you to reduce pain firs using some machines later they will give you exercise to regain movement .

Hi Vidhushi,
I hope it was a cast and not a bandage. Its recommended to apply the cast for a period of 8 weeks if the fracture is undisplaced; after which physiotherapy can be started. However you need to follow up with your Orthopaedician if pain persists after 3-4 months. Restoration to normal activities should be gradual.
