I Had Herpes Six Years Ago. Am I Still Contagious While Having Sex?

Hello, 5-6 years ago I had herpes 1. It was very painful at the time, but had anti biotics. I have had no symptoms or problems since. Am I still contagious or dangerous if I kiss, or have sex with anyone. I do not even have cold sores or anything else? I would appreciate your answer. Di

Hello,
Welcome to HCM,
There are different types of herpes virus infecting the human beings.Herpes virus 1 most commonly affects the face near the lip margins where as Herpes virus 2 (Genital herpes) most commonly affects genitals.
Both can be transmitted through contact. This virus remains dormant for many years in the nerve root ganglion, whenever there is a favorable environment like decreased immunity this virus gets activated and produce his symptoms.
The rashes will be very contagious which spread by droplet infection and also by mucosa and mucosa contact.
Thank you.
