I Had Thyroid Surgery And My Left Vocal Cord Does

I had thyroid surgery and my left vocal cord does not work and I have trouble swallowing. It has been 3 1/2 weeks and no help. I can whisper loud. ENT checked my vocal cord and said the surgeon either damaged or stretched my vocal cord nerve. What chance do I have of this improving? I am very anxious. My polyp was not cancer. I am being referred to a speech therapist. My thyroid was inflamed.
