Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a woman I visit in a nursing home, she's 103 and everyday she has pain after she urinates. It's not painful when she urinates but after she is changed the aide puts on PeriGuard and that helps a bit but the pain starts and will last for up to an hour. The doctor told her to drink a lot of water, which she is neglectful to do but she does drink a decent amount of fluids. It's very sad to see her in pain and they say there's nothing they can do that it's because of her age and that her urethra is dry. They give her Tylenol for the pain. Is there anything else that can be done to help her. Also I was reading that drinking baking soda mixed in water can make the urine alkaline and I read that that helps some people. Thank you and any help will be appreciated or even something that I can pass on to her doctor.
