hi i think i have an infection in one of my wisdom teeth, i think its called pericoronitis? my tooth has been impacted for quite some time but this is the worst it has ever felt as far as pain goes. i do not have insurance at this time to get it pulled or get antibiotics. what i need to know is what antibiotics are used for infections like this, and is there somewhere i can get them without the expensive trip to the doc and an outrageous bill for the help i need?
Wisdom tooth is the last tooth to errupt in the oral cavity and is often tilted, impacted and malaligned, this area is difficult to clean and often leads to food accumulation and bacterial infection leading to redness and swelling of the overlying gums known as PERICORONITIS.
Best treatment of this is extraction of the wisdom tooth, since you cannot do the extraction right now, you can start with the course of antibiotics and analgesic, take lukewarm saline and antiseptic mouthwash gargles, maintain a good oral hygiene.
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Since your wisdom tooth is impacted, the infection is due to abscess developed under the impacted tooth.
I would advice you to visit a dentist soon and get a thorough clinical as well as x-ray examination done.
If there is adequate space for tooth eruption, flap overlying tooth has to be removed.
If there is no space for tooth eruption, get it extracted.
Take antibiotics as per dentist' PREscription.
Meanwhile gargle frequently using warm saline and betadine rinse.
Maintain good oral hygiene too.
Take care.
Hello dear
Your information reveals that you have sufficient knowledge about your problem.so if antibiotic are available then you can take oflaxacin plus ornidazole combination.Along with it you should start taking some painkiller and an antiseptic mouthwash.Warm saline rinses will givemyou added relief.

Hello and Welcome to HCM,
Thanks for writing to us.
The most common cause of pain from impacted tooth is the inflammation in the soft tissue covering over the offending tooth(Pericoronitis), mostly caused by food impaction in the soft tissue space over the tooth and/or bite injury over the soft tissue covering the impacted tooth, by upper molar tooth.
As your third molar has remote possibility to be erupted in the mouth(as cover by bone and no space to be be erupted) the symptom like pain may frequently appear. The Third molar has no function for mastication(chewing) or maintaining occlusion, so it is always better to extract the tooth when it starts causing problem.
In an experienced surgeons hand your impacted tooth can easily be extracted without causing much problem.
Hope this helps you.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.
Hi,
Thanks for asking query,
According to your explanation it seems that your having pericoronitis , it is the inflammation of gum due to the deposition of food around the tooth.
I suggest you to maintain good oral hygiene ,prevent food retention, take tab amoxclav 625mg twice daily, tab ebility thrice daily, gargle with warm saline water 3 10 4 times a day , use antiseptic mouthwash.
hope this will help you.
Your wisdom teeth are infected and the pain is due to infection. The pain killer can only take care of pain but not the infection. Till your infection is controlled the pain cannot be controlled even by pain killer tabs and for controlling infection you have to take antibiotics. Along with taking pain killers you can do warm saline rinses and keep the area very clean. Donot eat anything from that side. You can apply clove oil or put clove there. Antibiotics will contol infection then your pain will subside. You have to get the decayed wisdom teeth pulled out. so schedule an appointment with your dentist and get exam and xray done. He will prescribe the right antibiotic after assessing the infection. You can visit dental school for cheap treatment.
you are suffering from pericoronitis that is inflammation of gums overlying your wisdom tooth.
This flap of loose gums invites accumulation of food debris which leads to fowl mouth odou, bacterial infection and in turn abscess formation.
Rinse your mouth regularly with warm saline water till you visit a dentist.
X ray examination of the tooth shows its position and if its impacted in bone go for surgical removal of tooth.
if the tooth seems to erupt in coming time you can go for operculectomy that is excision of the overlying flap to remove the pocket and expose the tooth for eruption.
meantime,
continue with the course of antibiotic Augmentin 625mg along with analgesics like aceclofenac two times daily for 3 to 5 days .
Hi,
The condition You are suffering from is known as Pericoronitis. This results in pain and swelling. Antibiotic and pain killers are a temporary relief for the problem. The permanent solution for it is Surgical removal of the tooth by a Oral and Maxillo-facial surgeon. Warm saline gargle 4-5 times a day provides relief for a short period of time.
hello rebecca,
the condition where the small tissue over hanging the distal part of the molar tooth getting infected is callled as pericoronitis. this can lead to the infection of the wisdom tooth as well. an x- ray of the tooth has to be taken first , the dentist has to decide weather there is any chance of tooth erupting more. if the tooth is impacted , its better to get it surgically removed. if there is enough space and there is any chance of eruption then a pericoronal flap surgery will suffice. normally plain amoxcillin 250 mg 3 times a day coupled with a analgesic & anti- inflamatory will suffice. u need to have the medicaation for min 4 days..
regarding the soaring amount of dental bill .. i think you should consider getting the treatment from another country. google about dental tourism . you will get better ideas. or visit www.smilezone.org.
mail me if u have more doubts. regards.
