I have difficulty staying asleep and have had this problem for many years. I'm now in my mid 60s. I do best if I go to bed around 11:00 p.m. and can sleep until 6:00-6:30 a.m.
Sometimes I'm so tired, I fall asleep before 10:00 p.m. and then I wake as early as 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. and I'm up for the day. I use 5 mg of melatonin, which I take around 9:00 p.m. Any earlier, I'm sleeping too early and up all night. I have used Benadryl for years as I often have itchy skin at night, which adds to the problem. Does it lead to dementia with extended usage? I've tried not taking it, but I just don't sleep as well.
