Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had chemo treatments for over 2 years for stage 4 colon. The first cocktail was oxalyplaitin, 5FU, avastin and leucovorin via IV. Within 6 months I was NED and went on a maintenance regime with Xeloda and just Avastin but after 4 months there was progression of disease and I tried to go back to the original cocktail but after just the first dropof Oxaly I had stroke like symtoms and we stopped the IV. I took a break and then started Erbitux weekly with lucovorin and Irenotecan every other week. I developed a severe allergic reaction to the Erbitux and we stopped treatment. I opted for radiation to the liver to halt progression and sought a second opinion in Seattle and the Dr. here started me on Erbitux again very two weeks but at half the dosage. I experienced breathing difficulty but maged to get thru the treatement. Meanwhile the tumor board recommended 18 radiation doses to thecolon which I have just completed. I am suppose to resume chemo on the 29th but I am wonderimg if I can take Xeloda rather that the Erbitux IV as we are traveling 3700 miles across country to return to Florida so it would certainly make things easier. My question is this: Is there a big difference in what these 2 drugs do in stopping progression?
