I Just Turned 50 This Last September. I Have Not

I just turned 50 this last September. I have not had a period for two years as of this November. Should I still be using some form of birth control? We have been using only rubbers for the past 4 years. My husband is about to get a Vasectomy but I don't want him to if there is no need. Please advise.
