General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Black fly bites leaves a bleeding laceration and a painful pruritic sore that are slow to heal; regional lymphadenopathy . fever occasionally ensures.
Benadryl ( diphehydramin) zyrtec ( ceterizine ) , don't take concomitantly these two drugs , because they will produces sedation and nausea , vomiting.
Topical applications of antipruritic agents ( clobetasone ) , glucocorticoids or antiseptic lotions may relieve the itching and pain of thumb and numbness.
Since you are only having pain and numbness so in my opinion antihistamine is not necessary ( zyrtec & benadryl ).
Good luck .
