Increased Heart Beat While Laying Down, Fainting Episodes In Past. What Is The Cause And Cure?

I'm worried about my boyfriend. We have been together for 5 months almost 6. I have noticed that when we are laying down resting his heart beats extrememly fast and when i lay on his stomach its as if his heart can jump out of his stomach thats how fast it beats. He has told me that he has passed out before and that he could have a heart attack any minute. I just want to know what causes this and what he might have so i can know more and understand his problem.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

In the normal heart beat, a ' stimulus or ' impulse' starts from a specific point of the heart and travels along a specific pathway to stimulate the rest of the heart to beat.

Abnormal heart rate or rhythms occur if (1) there is increase in the 'impulse' from this point (2) another part of the heart is creating an impulse to beat (3) the 'impulse' is travelling along another pathway (4) there is any blockage of the normal pathway

To determine if there is an abnormal rate or rhythm , your boyfriend would need an ECG. If this is normal and he is still having symptoms he may need a holter which is basically a 24 hour ECG.

Blood tests checking for anemia and thyroid disease may also be suggested since both of these can cause an increase heart rate.

I hope this helps
