Infant Has Fever. On Calpol, Paracetamol, Mefenemic Acid. Can I Skip A Dose?

My daughter 1year 2 months old having fever since 2 days. Dr prescribed calpol (paracetamal) 5ml / dose, meftal (mefenemic acid) 2.5 ml per dose. Taxim - 0 oral dry syrup. 5ml BID. Paracetamol and mefenemic acid to be given at every 3hr interval alternatively. ie duration betveen each paracetamol dosing is 6hrs. Same for mefenemic acid. My question is that paracetmal and mefenemic acid alternative therapy is safe for children? also is mefenemic acid safe for children of this age? Can I skip the dose if the fever is stopped. Please advise. Thanks.

Hi Kalaislvan,
Yes if fever has stopped you can stop both medicines.
usually paracetamol will work for 6 hrs-if fever does not come down with paracetamol, then you can give meftal in between.paracetamol is safer than meftal, but sometimes meftal may be necessary!
take care, wishing your son speedy recovery DrUma
