Infant Having Exaggerated Reflexes On Examination, Has Trachea-esophageal Fistula, Has Episodes Of Hyperextension Of Neck, Back. Conclusion?

i have a 2 month old son with tracheo- esophageal fistula who is still in NICU awaiting for his esophagus to elongate so that another surgery will be done to fix the said problem. We notice sometimes that he has episodes of hyperextension of the neck and back. He was examined today by a neurologist and it was observed that he have exaggerated reflexes upon examination. Is this good or bad? Is this a sign of any neurological problem? please help.... thank you

By your question do I understand that he has been operated upon once and is awaiting another surgery. In this case what was the first operation done and what was the result?

What does the neurologist tell you about the condition of your son? Why was his/her opinion sought? Exaggerated reflexes in your son's case may be normal but can also be due to causes like hypocalcaemia or other conditions. These can only be excluded after getting the complete report from the neurologist.

Just to mention here, some babies do face a problem due to prolonged stay in NICU where it is always lighted and beeps of machine and noise from medical staff does not give complete peace. If the NICU permits then do spend a lot of time with your son.
