Infant Passing Stools Frequently, Running Fever, Given ORS. Can I Give Z&d? What To Do?

My daughter had passed almost 12 stools yesterday. I gave my 12 month daughter(aprox 9.5kg), 1ml of z&d(20mg/ml) last evening at aprox 7 in the evening, it s been 13 hours now, she is also running fever for which I gave her crocin . I have also given her ORS , she is still passing stools and has done thrice in last one hour. can I give her another 1ml of z&d as it has been 13 hours or should I wait. Kindly advise. In past 13 hours she has only had 6 ounces of ORS.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Your child seems acute gastroenteritis mostly due to a virus or bacteria.

The mainstay of treatment is to maintain the hydration and to monitor the hydration of the child.

Continue to give ORS sip by sip to replace the losses of water and electrolytes in loose stools and to maintain hydration of the child.

Z and D can be given 1ml once daily for 2 weeks.

Continue crocin in prescribed dose for fever.

Consult the doctor for specific treatment and assessment of her hydration.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
