Hello Doctor, My daughter is 8 months old. She weighs 9 kgs. She has urine infection and fever . We were advised by a doctor to give meftal-p and another doctor to give p125 [since the first doctor was on vaccation]. Can you please explain me what is the difference between p125 syrup and meftal-p ? Thanks for the help.

Pediatrician, Neonatology 's  Response
Hi Rajesh,
Use p125 if there is mild to moderate fever.
Meftal for high fever.
Meftal has some side effects.
Paracetamol (P125) is safer.
Both reduce temperature.
All the best

Pediatrician Dr. Mohammad Waseem's  Response
Hi,
P125 is paracetamol. It is safest antipyretic used for fever. It is given in dose of 10-15 mg/kg/dose, can be given every 6-8 hourly as required(for your child it is 5ml per dose). It is usually given when temperature exceeds 100degreeFer.

Meftal P is mefenemic acid.It is analgesic, antiinflamatory and antipyretic used for pain, inflamation, and fever. It is usually used in practise in chlidren for high grade fever(greater than 102 degreeFer) not relieved by paracetamol. It is given in dose of 2mg/kg/dose not more than twice a day for fever(in your child it is 2ml per dose)

One more point which I want to mention in your case is that you have to give antibiotic also for Urine infection after Urine routine microscopy and culture sensitivity as antipyretic alone cannot treat UTI.
Wish your family a good health.
