Infant With Fast Breathing, High Temperature And Cough. Viral Infection? On Antibiotics
hello. my son is 20mo old and has a rectal temp of 104.1 and is breathing faster and slightly harder than normal. he also has a cough . we were in to the doc last weekend and he was put on an antibiotic and then it came back and we were in just this last saturday and she said it was viral and now today he is worse yet. should we seek emergency care (as the office is closed until 8:30am tomorrow) or should we wait it out?
Its better that you take him to ER.
Fever with cough and fast breathing- one needs to rule out Pneumonia- which may be viral or bacterial.
Doctor will examine his chest, assess the severity and advise accordingly.
So please do take him to ER.
Till then continue with the same medications.
Hope my answer helps you.
Wish your son a speedy recovery.
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Yes You should take him to emergency for proper evaluation and management .
As he is having high grade fever with cough and increased respiratory rate ,it could be pneumonia.
He may need some tests like CBC,X ray chest.
In the meantime give medication as prescribed,do sponging with tepid water to bring down temperature.
hi welcome to hcm.see he had high fever ,his breathing fast which also indicate it give him antipyeretics if fever still remain then yes immidietely contact ur pedia doctor.
thanks
