Infant With Fluctuating Fever, Cold And Dry Cough. Chest Congestion Persisting. Can Calpol Be Given?

My baby is 9 months old and is having fluctuating fever, cold and a kind of dry cough. Her fever had gone upto even 102 degree F once. Doctor has prescribed Novamox 125, Calpol drops and Meftal for high fever. We had given her Meftal twice during high fever, but after her fever came down below 101, we continued on calpol drops. Now the temperature is normal, but seems to have severe chest congestion and cold. We are giving her Novamox and T - Minic. Should we give calpol even when the temperature is normal, or just when her temperature goes above normal?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi dear,
Your child is probably suffering from respiratory infection. Antibiotics need to be given for complete duration. Calpol only reduces fever. It also has side effects like gastritis leading on to vomiting. It is bad for liver so don't give calpol unnecessarily. Use calpol only when there is fever.
COugh and chest congestion will be there even for a week. No need to worry as long as there is no fever or fast breathing. Don't worry she will be fine.
Take care
