Infant With Reddish Spots On The Temple And Shoulder. What Are These?

Hi, my child is 9 months old. This morning when he woke he had a red spot/bump on his right temple and one on his back right shoulder. Now one on his left shoulder. They looks like mosquito bites but have gotten redder and more raiser over the day, he is also had 4 sleeps today when he only usually has 2 maybe 1. And appears to be still very tired and grumpy between sleeps. No temp. Still eating and drinking. Urinating ok. And gone to the toilet once today, which he usually goes twice!
Thanks

Hi, thanks for asking in Healthcare Magic.

The reason for your son's fatigue, grumpy mood and sleep could be fever.

Measles which usually occurs around 9 months. Infants are protected by maternal antibodies which declines by 9th month. Hence the vaccination MMR (mumps, measles and rubella) is given during this time. If you have not given the vaccination, then the rashes could have been due to measles. Early symptoms are fever, cough and white spots in mouth. Rash appears on 4th day. But rash is always accompanied by high fever and diarrhea in measles.

Mild rash without fever could be due to Rubella, enteroviral, adenoviral infections, insect bite, drugs or bacterial skin infection. Treatment depends upon the cause of rash. Visit your treating Dr. for early diagnosis and treatment.

I hope this is useful to you.
