Infant With Watery Stools And Occasional Vomiting, Causing Delay In Vaccination. Is It Infection?
Hello Dr, My baby is about 15 weeks old... He passes watery stools 1-2 times a day and has occasional projectile vomitting... He sometimes feels hot and sweats while feeding - the temperature is about 99.5 F and he cools down to normal temperature soon after he starts sleeping. We believe he has an infection and have been delaying his vaccinations - by over 3 weeks now. We are not sure what to do, as delaying vaccination is a not a good thing as well. Any suggestions pleasE?
Hi,
Small babies do have motion of this kind sometimes they pass 10-12 times and sometimes they don't pass .all this is considered normal because of immaturity of the intestines.Occasional vomits may be due to not burping after feeds or reflux which again is common in babies. If the temperature of your baby becomes alright by itself then maybe it's because of over clothing the child.if he persist to sweat while feeding with difficulty while feeding and weight gain in a month is inadequate then he will require medical treatment otherwise please do not delay vaccine because they prevent from life threatening infections.
Bye
Take care
Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
Watery stools 1 to 2 times is normal in infants and nothing to worry.
I advise you to feed the baby with exclusively breast feeds.
Mild rise of temperature is not a indication to delay the vaccination and I advise you to go for vaccination after consulting and taking opinion of your Pediatrician.
Some times dehydration may present with fever, so feed the child frequently and adequately to maintain hydration.
If the fever is persistent, consult your Pediatrician for basic investigations like CBP, CUE, CRP to know the focus of any infection.
Hope I have answered your query.
