I want to interpret my Sputum test culture report:
CULTURE , SPUTUM SUSCEPTIBILITY
CULTURE; SPUTUM
SPECIMEN SOURCE SPUTUM
GRAM'S STAIN PUS CELLS: 8-10/LPF
EPITHELIAL CELLS: 3-5/LPF
GRAM POSITIVE COCCI SEEN IN PAIRS AND CHAINS: (+)
ORGANISM NO PATHOGENS GROWN. NORMAL RESPIRATORY FLORA GROWN.

Pl help.

Gram positive cocci seen in pairs & chains could be Pneumococci & streptococci respectively.Even if the culture of sputum is negative(Mainly due to technical faults), indication is for the judicial use of antibiotic against Pneumococci & Streptococci.
