Iron, VitD Deficiency When Pregnant, Has Kactise Intolerance. Unable To Move Arm, X-ray Says Supracondular Fracture. What Is This ?
Hi I had iron deficiency when pregnant and very low vitamin d, he was then diagnised with kactise intolerance when birn sling with reflux pribkems. when my baby was 9 months old my partner and me took him to our local a&e as he wasn't moving his arm as usual, the triage docter couldn't see any abnormalities and the docter didn't either but said it may if been a pulled elbow. She reduced his arm and heard a noise and thought she had solved the problem but it got worse and so we were sent for a X-ray which came back as a supracondular fracture!!!!! The next nurse to see him said his arm then looked deformed but 2 previous didn't see any deformities else why would they manipulate a deformed arm. I suppose my question is could me having low iron and vitamin d of affected him or lactose intolerance? And could the nurse who manipulated have done any damage?? Thanks for your time

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for writing to us
Vit D deficiency during pregnancy and lactation definitely affects the outcome in infant. Baby might develop features of vitD deficiency and is more prone for fractures even with minimal trauma. Displacement of fracture could happen during the wrong manipulation.
