Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have much trouble falling asleep and have been taking one (1) xanax .25 mg. at bedtime for over a year. After a year, I now need two (2) of those xanax tablets to help me fall asleep and sometimes that doesn t even work. I was wondering about asking my doctor to prescribe Ambien to see if that would help me and stop taking the xanax. Thank you for your time.
Some drugs(medicines) have the potential to make you dependent on them or use more doses to make them work eventually. You need to ask your doctor to change the drug. Sometimes it's not just the drug that you need to cure sleeplessness. Try exercise, meditation and maintain a healthy diet. You can even ask your doctor to prescribe 'Melatonin' containing tablets to improve your sleep-wake cycle.
Hope this clarifies your concerns. Thank you for the query.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Niharika Porwal, General & Family Physician
