Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a mastectomy on left breast in April and now the Dr. wants me to take Anastrazole - he described it as estrogen and through all my readings I was advised to NOT take estrogen. He said my numbers were high. Is this a safe medication to take - my internist said it is kind of a anti-estrogen. Please advise. Thank you.
In my opinion, Anastrozole is a medication given to people suffering from breast cancer as an added treatment as it prevents the conversion of androgens to estrogen. Therefore in a way, it is anti-estrogenic.
As adviced by your doctor you can take it if it has been advised by your specialist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Riyanka Chail, General & Family Physician
