Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently on 20 mg of Celexa for about 7 years. My life has had undue stresses for the last 7 years including the tragic death of my mother in 2007 in my arms, my husband's bankruptcy in 2009, the loss of my homes and business. Now I am in full blown anxiety as my last business lost it's funding, and I am a court case for another business. Is Ativan safe. Is Xanax safe?
Celexa or citalopram is SSRI drug and it is a good drug for depression and anxiety. Depression in your case was aggravated by loss of mother and loss in business so as per my opinion apart from medicines you should also think about consulting a Psychologist. Cognitive therapy and proper counselling sessions will help in decreasing the bad memories and will reduce anxiety.
Ativan is Lorazepam and Xanax is Clonazepam. Both are benzodiazepine drugs and have potential to cause dependence. As per my opinion these drugs should not be taken without prescription. Both drugs can help in improving sleep and in decreasing anxiety. They are not anti-depressant drugs but they can augment action of antidepressants. So consult your psychiatrist first before starting these drugs.
Thanks, hope this helps you
