Is Bactroban Application Safe For Rash On Upper Lip?
I was just prescribed Bactroban for a "rash" (basically tight red patch on upper lip, that is slowly spreading) on my top lip. However online it says to avoid putting Bactroban anywhere near lips?? Is this o.k. or did the urgent care person not have a clue?
I can understand your concern for the rash on upper lip.
There can be mutiple possibilities of the rash including mild folliculitis to herpes simplex or related thing. In any of the case if you are applying the cream externally then there is no harm in applying the same.
Bactroban cream contains mupirocin in it and is ery safe cream. The cream should not be applied inside the mouth which are known as mucosal surface. That is why it is written not to be applied near lips. But in my own clinical experience it can be applied safely near lips, so do not get worried about the safety of cream.
All the best.
