Is Cymbalta Advisable Over Zoloft?

I am currently taking Zoloft but am experiencing severe depressive episodes which last up to three days at least every other month. I know that Zoloft affects serotonin and I am wondering if either Cymbalta, which affects serotonin & norephinephrine or Wellbutrin, which affects norephinephrine & dopamine, would be a better option.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Cymbalta has never been superior to Zoloft on treating depression. It has more side effects and a lower safety margin. But, it has effects on pain that Zoloft does not.
Also, individuals vary on responses to medications. Some people prefer one some prefer another.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
