I am a 39wk primip and @my appt today, my MD discussed using Cytotec next week to ripen the cervix. I have demonstrated softening but no thinning or dilation for several weeks. My BP is starting to creep.... was 104/64-68 until two weeks ago, now 130/84. I have a hx of PCOS and have been treated as high-risk throughout. Does this seem like an appropriate plan of action? I have done my Cytotec research and there sure seems to be mixed review.
well , the idea of inducing at 40 weeks is fine but misoprostol(cytotec) was earlier used for cervical ripening in high dosages, but today CERVIPRIME GEL( DINOPROSTONE)gel 0.5 % is available which is the safest bet for cervical ripening . it suprpasses all side effects of misoprostol lik precipitate labour, rupture uterus, tetanic contractions, abruptio. cerviprime is to be applied intracervically 6hrly for maximum for 4 dosages for initiating cervical ripening. you should discuss this option with your obstetrician for sure. regards
