Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has kidney failure (stage 4), and Doctor ordered to give him Darbepoetin Alfa (30 mcg) for 3 months. We have now another new doctor and she ordered to give him Epogen alfa (unit 10000). We wonder if there are any difference between these two solutions. Thank you.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Both, Derbopoetin Alpha and Epogen Alpha drugs are same as both are having erythropoietin.
Erythropoietin is required for blood formation and produced by the kidney. However, End-stage kidney patients failed to produce this hormone. Therefore, we need to give it to patients as a drug.
So, no need to worry as you can use either of them.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar
