Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a hysterectomy in 2002 and have been using Femring since then with great results. No hot flashes, mood swings or any negative symptoms. My insurance just stopped covering it and I have not been using any estrogen for 2 weeks. I fortunately do not have any hot flashes but do have occasional mood swings where I feel very edgy. My doctor and I are researching what may be a good alternative that my insurance does cover. I am looking into Estradiol and wondered if this might be a helpful alternative to Femring. Are the oral tablets safe, or which form should I consider? Or, whatever medication, even over the counter may also be helpful?
Femring is nothing but an Estradiol acetate drug which is used by putting in vaginal from where drug is released slowly and enters systemic circulation.
However, only Estradiol in higher dose for long term use has shown to increase the risk of endometrial carcinoma and hematological abnormalities.
Initial cycle includes only estrogen followed by added progesterone in second half. It will maintain hormonal balance and relieve symptoms related to it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Hiren Hirpara

Is Estradiol A Good Alternative Of Femring?
Hello, Femring is nothing but an Estradiol acetate drug which is used by putting in vaginal from where drug is released slowly and enters systemic circulation. However, only Estradiol in higher dose for long term use has shown to increase the risk of endometrial carcinoma and hematological abnormalities. For you, HRT (hormone replacement therapy) is best. It includes low dose estrogen + progesterone with low side effects. Initial cycle includes only estrogen followed by added progesterone in second half. It will maintain hormonal balance and relieve symptoms related to it. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Hiren Hirpara
