Is Gabapentin Safe To Take For Sleeplessness?

I have been taking Gabapentin for almost one month. I was prescribed it for maybe helping me sleep better and for Burning Mouth Syndrome. It has been helping with the sleeping better, but I just came across something online about Gabapentin is causing very serious problems for people, and that it is being abused. I don't know if I should keep taking it or not. And I read that you do NOT just up and stop taking it, and that the doctor should take you off of it slowly. Does Gabapentin help Burning Mouth Syndrome?

Hello!

Welcome on Healthcaremagic!

Regarding your concern, you should know that Gabapentine could help in case of Burning mouth syndrome.
So, it is OK to take it!
It is true that it should be stopped gradually in order to prevent withdrawal syndrome.
But, there is nothing to worry about! It can be taken for years, under medical prescription.
You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Kind regards, Dr. Aida
