Is Gatifloxacin The Same As Besivance?

Is gatifloxacin the same as besivance? My doctor prescribed besivance for my eyes prior to cataract surgery and I just realized the pharmacy gave me gatifloxacin. I need to start the drops 3 days before my surgery which is 3 days from now and the pharmacy is closed. I don t know whether to use the gatifloxacin or not

Thanks for posting on HCM
Besivance is besifloxacin which is different from gatifloxacin.However, the 2 drugs are common in that they are all fluoroquinolones.They belong to the same group of antibiotics and share so many properties in common including their antimicrobial sensitivity though not same at 100%.Since the drug was not given to treat a particular disease but to prepare you for an intervention, gatifloxacin will serve you.In the absence of Besivance and if you can not reach your Doctor, you may use Gatifloxacin if your pharmacist is not there to change it.
