Is Glycomet Intake Safe For Weight Loss?

Hi,
I am 39yrs old, female, weighing 75kgs with a FBS reading of 117 and PP reading of100. insulin fasting is 8.10 and PP is 41.9. My doc has prescribed Glycomet500(twice a day) for weightloss alongwith diet and exercise. Is it safe to use this drug. I have LDL of 125 and triglycerides of 178.8. If I use this drug now will it be permanent.I don't want to use drugs to lose weight.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

Glycomet is a drug used to treat diabetes. I have never heard of it being used to treat weight loss. Though it suppresses appetite, ,no one should prescribe this drug as first line therapy for weight loss. I will recommend regular exercise, decreased calories intake as primary measures and only consider drugs should these measures fail and that sometime later.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarification if need be.
