Is Ibuprofen Effective For Viral Tonsillitis?

Hi. I probably have viral tonsillitis, no fever, left tonsil continues to swell and appears as if blood vessels are visible or mild bleeding is occuring. Pain is getting worse after 3 days. No response to azythromicin. Do I need steroids or is it safe to sleep with Ibuprofen?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain in case if you have a sore throat and swollen left tonsil along with appearance of blood vessels over the tonsils that is due to inflammation only..
It an be due to either bacterial or viral throat infection or there can be other causes like post nasal drip, acid reflux etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can do a throat swab culture for ruling out infection as well as check for pH level of throat to check for acid reflux..
In case if there is infection you need to continue taking antibiotics and Azithromycin is suitable for it..
You can take Ibuprofen as it will help in reducing inflammation, sweling and pain..
Steroids are not needed as of now and you can take throat lozenges and do warm saline gargles and steam inhalations..
In case if the swelling still increases and there is no resolution, then a steroid injection and oral steroids can be advised but should be taken only under supervision of the physician..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
