Is Klonopin The Right Medicine For Anxiety And Depression?

I a person has been on Klonopin as prescribed by a doctor, is there a limited amount of time to use it. A person who becomes very anxiety and outraged often says that he needs to take Klonopin to calm down. Shouldn't
this person with a dx of depression and anxiety be prescribed medication to keep him calm for the day-eg released meds. There is a consistent pattern - the person becomes enraged re a seemingly innocent event or a stressful one...then he realizes that he should not have reacted in such a explosive manner. In addition, when he feels criticized, he admits and has "lashed out" to others he knows and those in the public environment. What is your take? Should his meds be adjusted- He has been on this medication for several years. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there. Depression and anxiety are both treated with antidepressants which he is not taking which I gather from your history. The symptoms you describe are not tupical of depression, maybe you are not stating all the symptoms. I suggest that he goes for an evaluation because he could be having another mood disorder.
